Next Storm System Expected Saturday
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms were over East Texas Wednesday, with a squall line likely to cross the area Wednesday evening with an attendant risk for severe weather. Rainfall amounts Wednesday were less than one inch, mostly running one-half inch or less.
A few light sprinkles fell in Tyler around noon, with showers shortly before 2 p.m., and again about two hours later. Heavy rain fell in the city between 4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. The city picked up 0.76 inch of rain, while the airport measured 0.40 inch.
Skies were mostly cloudy to cloudy on Wednesday otherwise.
Temperatures ran about 5 degrees warmer than on Tuesday, and about 3 degrees above normal. Thursday’s temperatures should average a couple of degrees lower, with warming for Friday.
Low temperatures Wednesday morning were from the middle 60s in the northeast to the lower 70s in the south. These were up to 10 degrees higher than on Tuesday morning. Low readings both Thursday and Friday morning should be in the 60s region-wide.
Afternoon high readings Wednesday were from the middle 70s to lower 80s and were a couple of degrees above Tuesday’s. High readings on Thursday and Friday should be in the 80s, with Friday’s temperatures slightly higher.
A couple of storm systems are likely during the next week.
The first, Saturday, will be accompanied by a weak cold front. With very limited moisture return, rain chances are slim. The front will, however, bring the above normal temperatures to an end.
