UT Tyler’s Baker, Booher Earn All-American Southwest Conference Baseball Honors

RICHARDSON — Clay Baker and Blake Booher earned superlative honors on the All-American Southwest Conference East Division baseball team, released on Monday.

Baker, a senior second baseman from Henderson and Northwestern State, was voted Player of the Year by the ASC East coaches. Booher, a junior from Hurst, was selected as the division’s Pitcher of the Year.

Baker hit .401 with 10 home runs with 47 RBIs and was 17 of 21 in stolen bases. Booher, who suffered the first loss of his collegiate career in last weekend’s conference tournament, set ASC records in wins with 11 and posted a league-best 2.06 ERA.

Baker and Booher also earned spots on the first team, along with third baseman Joseph Towns (Jr., Carrollton), catcher Jeremy Harding (Jr., Houston/Cedar Valley CC), outfielders Jared Hood (Jr., Marshall/Hill College) and Andrew Damewood (Sr., Plano/Brookhaven CC) and relief pitcher Beau Ziegler (North Wales, Pa./Gloucester CC).

Shortstop Kendall Fox (Jr., Carrollton) and starting pitcher Brett Holland (Jr., Lindale) were named to the second team.

UT Tyler players receiving honorable mention were senior outfielder Chris Goss (Waco) and senior utility player Corey Farra (Lewisville/Vernon JC).

McMurry’s Derek David and Cody Curry took home Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors, respectively, on the All-ASC West Division team.
