American Heart Association Recognizes University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler was recognized this month for its care of patients with coronary artery disease.

The American Heart Association honored nurse Sandra Fly, director of quality services, with a Distinguished Service Award.

UTHSCT received the Silver Award in coronary artery disease, just one of 14 hospitals in Texas and 184 in the U.S. to be honored this way.

UTHSCT also received a Bronze Award for 90 days of 85 percent compliance in management of heart failure.

The award honors facilities that ensure patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke consistently receive care in accordance with the latest guidelines and recommendations.

To qualify for the award, hospitals must treat and discharge at least 85 percent of their cardiac and stroke patients for one year using the latest AHA guidelines.

An AHA research grant was named in honor of Fly, an award given throughout Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
