Weekend May Bring Chance Of Showers
A line of weakening thunderstorms moved through East Texas Tuesday, with widespread and perhaps severe thunderstorms likely Wednesday afternoon and evening. Rain fell in Tyler between 11 a.m. and noon, with the airport measuring 0.13 inch and the city 0.17 inch. Skies partially cleared during the afternoon as the thunderstorms were scattering out.
Temperatures ran about 5 degrees warmer than on Monday, and were about 2 degrees below normal. Temperatures on Wednesday should run about 6 degrees warmer, with slightly lower readings likely Thursday.
Winds on Tuesday were southerly at less than 10 mph overnight, and blew at 10-15 mph during the afternoon. A wind advisory has been issued for Wednesday, as southerly winds are expected to increase to 20-30 mph with gusts to near 40 mph.
A weak cold front, associated with the upper air storm forecast to cross Wednesday evening, should shift winds into the west and then northwest Wednesday night and Thursday.
Tyler’s highest sustaining wind Tuesday was southerly at 21 mph with a peak gust of 25 mph, and an average velocity of 6.3 mph.
Tuesday’s average relative humidity was 83 percent, with similar values likely Wednesday, and lower values Thursday.
Tyler’s high temperature of 77 Tuesday came at 4:11 p.m., following the morning’s low of 59 at 3:04 a.m.
A weak disturbance should cross Saturday night, bringing another chance for showers.
A more significant system is likely early next week, with showers and thunderstorms back in the forecast by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Temperatures will continue at or above normal until the middle of next week.
