May 6: Sharelunker And Beer
RANT: Sunday's outdoor column reported how Texas anglers can donate to the state's "Budweiser Sharelunker Program," a TP&W fish hatchery program designed to introduce big bass in area lakes.
The article did not mention how these fish are later used to advertise Budweiser beer among the children attending the youth-oriented Wildlife Expo held annually at TP&W's Austin headquarters.
The beer advertising on the "Budweiser Sharelunker" exhibit has ranged from catchy beer slogans like "You've caught a great fish. Now catch a great feeling," to the most recent example this past October which simply read, "Budweiser, King of Beers."
Why would anyone want to donate a fish to be used by a state agency to promote alcohol among young Texans?
By the way, Sunday's paper also carried a great editorial on MADD's efforts, including their effort to reduce underage drinking. It mentioned more young people die from alcohol than from all illegal drugs combined.
Would TP&W tempt the fish in their fish hatchery with a product that was killing young fish?
