May 6: Bring Back Good Manners
REPLY: In response to "Courtesy Doesn't Cost."

I retired over 20 years ago from a 27-year career as a United Airlines flight attendant. I hope I was one of the F.A.s who gave you your wings and games. I know I helped many early boarders settle in with a smile. 9-11-01 broke my heart for the cruelty and inhumanity aboard the planes before the final terror.

I had not flown since that terrible day until last fall. What a shock. Cattle-car boarding and treatment. Smile muscles that were broken, robot-like service and very little warmth from the cabin crew. Unkempt appearance, especially from the ladies. The male attendants were much better groomed.

I agree with you, Natalie, airline troubles should not outlaw courtesy and human kindness. Hopefully airlines will wake up and return to good manners and service in our lifetime.
