Tyler Gymnast Headed To Nationals Again
COPPELL — Tyler gymnast Alaina Johnson is headed to nationals again.
Johnson, of Texas East Gymnastics, qualified for the VISA USA Championship in Boston during a national qualifier meet Texas Dreams Gym.
The competition in Coppell served as a qualification to both the US Classic and the USA Championships. Johnson scored high enough to qualify to both meets, coach Martin Parsley said.
It is the third time Johnson has qualified for nationals. The championships, which will help determine the USA Olympic Team for Beijing is scheduled for June 5 and 7 in Boston.
The competition will be held at Agganis Arena on the Boston University campus.
The US Classic is scheduled for May 22-24 at Reliant Park in Houston.
Johnson finished second in the bars (14.55) at Coppell and fifth in the all around (56.5).
Johnson and Parsley left for the National Training Center near New Waverly. Once there the two will train with national coaches and the women’s National Team, all under the watchful eye Women’s National Coordinator Martha Karolyi. Skills will be honed and perfected during the week all in hopes of rising to the next level in a few months, Parsley said.
