May 5: British Musician Brought Disgusting Message to Dallas
This past Friday night I attended the Roger Waters (formerly of England's Pink Floyd) concert in Dallas. All things considered, it was an exceptional musical performance and most certainly a treat for all of us who have enjoyed the group and their music for the last 35 years.
Being an American first and a fan second, there were a few things that occurred which I found more than distasteful. One video clip shown on the big screen included a series of pictures that included Bin Laden, Saddam, Stalin and finally, President Bush. A good portion of the crowd thought the concept was cute and responded accordingly.
Later, the lyrics of one of the songs were displayed and they included profane references to President Bush and his "Texas Education" as having warped his thinking.
Lastly, a huge helium- filled pink pig was pulled through the audience which was decorated with various slogans and drawings, including one which clearly was intended as an insult to our vice president. The pig was then released up and into the path airliners were using as they made their approach into Love Field (clearly irresponsible and potentially very dangerous).
Call it what you will, but I found it disgusting that anyone could bring such a message to our soil and be applauded for having done so. Politics aside, I guess I'm just old enough to remember patriotism.
