Robert E. Lee Freshman Achieves Eagle Scout
Lathan Wayne Craft
Lathan Wayne Craft of Boy Scout Troop 370, sponsored by Green Acres Baptist Church, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on April 13.

He is the 100th Scout to receive the rank of Eagle under the leadership of his Scoutmaster and grandfather, Jim Reed.

Lathan is the son of the late Wayne and Sarah Reed Craft and the grandson of Jim and Sally Reed.

He is a freshman at Robert E. Lee High School where he is a member of the Red Raider Band. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and holds junior membership in the U.S. Tennis Association.

Lathan is a member of Green Acres Baptist Church where he is active in Praise Alive Choir, Celebration Orchestra and the High School Youth ministry. He also works with the Kindergarten Choir. He has participated in mission trips to New Orleans and Toronto, Canada.

Lathan's scouting life began in second grade when he joined Cub Pack 370. He advanced through ranks, earning every activity pin available. He was awarded the Arrow of Light in February 2004. He crossed over to Troop 370 on March 1, 2004.

He has served the troop as Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Senior Patrol Leader. He has attended summer camp at Camp Pirtle in Texas, and Camps Simpson and Hale in Oklahoma, and participated in canoeing the Buffalo River and hiking and rafting in Colorado. He has camped out a total of 104 nights on 44 different events.

In 2005 Lathan attended the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. In 2007 he served as Chaplain Aide for Troop 206 at the World Scout Jamboree held at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, England. He is looking forward to a trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in July, 2008.

In advancing to the rank of Eagle Lathan has earned a total of 43 merit badges. His Eagle project consisted of researching, planning and leading a construction team to build a series of birdhouses which were installed at the ROC, the Green Acres Recreation Outreach Complex off Highway 69 South. These birdhouses will attract native bird species for the enhancement of the area and the enjoyment of visitors to the Complex.

Lathan plans to continue his work in Scouting, earning Eagle palms and assisting other scouts on their trail to Eagle.
