Expect Lower Temperatures This Weekend
A line of severe thunderstorms crossed East Texas Friday morning, bringing brief heavy rainfall, some hail, and two, perhaps three tornadoes.
A tornado formed southwest of Canton about 8:25 a.m. The storm held together, alternately weakening and again strengthening, on a more than three-hour 120-mile path. This carried the storm through southern Van Zandt, northeastern Henderson, southern Smith, southern and central Rusk, and northern Panola counties before it exited the state around noon.
The tornado touched down at least four times: once in Canton at just after 8:30 a.m., again near Henderson about 11:20 a.m., near Beckville half an hour later, and finally north of Carthage.
In Tyler, heavy rain fell between 9:40 and 10:05 a.m., with the city picking up 0.51 inch of rain.
The emergency warning horns were sounded about 9:50 a.m., with the all-clear coming about 20 minutes later.
Small hail also fell briefly in the city about 9:45 a.m.
Low temperatures Friday morning were near 70, but fell into the high 50s to lower 60s behind the cold front. At 4 p.m., the front had still not reached Lufkin. Low temperatures Sat-urday and Sunday morning should run in the 50s, with lower readings likely Sunday.
High readings both Saturday and Sunday should be in the comfortable 70s.
Temperatures should run slightly below normal this weekend under fair skies.
A rather potent disturbance is forecast at mid-week, most probably on Wednesday. This could bring another severe weather event to the region at that time.
Temperatures will go above normal beginning Monday night, and stay there until next weekend.
