Slight Chance Of Thunderstorms Today
Wednesday was mild and windy in the area, with continuing strong and gusty winds likely through Friday afternoon.
A wind advisory was issued Wednesday morning, was continued in force through Thursday night, and will likely be extended into Friday.
The gusty winds are the result of interaction between a high pressure ridge, centered in the northern Gulf of Mexico, and a low pressure area, centered near Pueblo, Colo.
The surface low was deepening in response to an upper air storm system, crossing the western U.S. Wednesday.
As this feature begins crossing the Plains Thursday night, another surface low will develop somewhere from northwest Texas into southwest Kansas. A cold front will drop southward from this low.
The upper air and surface lows will cross the Plains Friday.
The result will be a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening, and numerous showers and thunderstorms Friday morning, tapering off in the afternoon.
There is the slight risk for severe weather along and just south of Red River late Thursday, and another slight risk east of a Lufkin-Tyler-Paris line for Friday.
Rainfall amounts with the Fri-day system should run between one-fourth and one-half inch, with areal coverage of 50-60 percent.
Cooling should follow the front Friday night, with a pleasant and less humid weekend.
Another storm system is forecast through the area some time during the first half of next week. Next Tuesday or Wednesday look like the best times based on Wednesday's analysis.
