Stormy Skies Expected Later This Week
Increasingly windy and humid weather is likely in the area Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a fast-moving storm system forecast to cross on Friday with the next chance for rain.
Stronger south winds are forecast for both Wednesday and Thursday. A wind advisory has been displayed for Wednesday, and another is likely Thursday.
Tuesday’s temperatures averaged about 7 degrees above Monday’s, and still about 4 degrees below normal.
Wednesday temperatures sh-ould be near normal, with slightly higher readings forecast for Thursday. There could be a few late-day showers over the west Thursday afternoon.
Friday’s storm system was coming ashore over Vancouver Island Tuesday afternoon. It was forecast to drop southeastward, and cross the Plains to the north of East Texas on Friday. A Pacific cold front will be associated with this feature.
As surface low pressure deepens along the western edge of the Great Plains, in response to the approach of the Vancouver Island upper air low, winds and humidities will increase as air is pulled out of the high pressure ridge which brought the early-week cool snap.
Friday’s system should cross rapidly, with a fast-moving squall line some time Friday morning. There could be a few occurrences of severe weather, though a general severe weather event is not likely.
Rainfall amounts Friday should average between one-fourth and one-half inch, with areal coverage of about 50 percent.
Amounts and coverage should increase from south to north.
The upcoming weekend should see seasonable temperatures and low humidities.
Moisture will begin returning Sunday ahead of another storm likely through the region Monday night and Tuesday.
The exact track and timing of this system are not yet agreed by the forecasting models.
However, showers and thunderstorms are possible between Sunday evening and Tuesday.
It is too early to make an assessment on the severe weather risk, areal coverage of any rainfall, and the amount of that rain.
