April 22: Helpful East Texans
ROSES: I want to say "thank you" to the wonderful gentlemen who assisted me and another April 8, about 9:45 p.m. The approaching severe weather blew down a large tree across FM 279, just south of Highway 64 West, in Tyler. This tree fell across the road, completely blocking the roadway just feet in front of me as I was heading home. I hit the tree with my truck, and the other driver hit the tree from the other side.
Just moments after the crash, several gentlemen stopped, helped slow down traffic and brought chain saws and chains to help remove me from my vehicle and get it and the tree off the road, thus preventing anyone else from hitting our already damaged vehicles and the tree which were right in a blind curve of the road.
The gentlemen left, just after Dixie Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene, before I could get their names or thank them individually, the circumstances did not allow me to express my appreciation for their selfless actions.
This act has made me realize again how helpful and friendly the people of East Texas can be when needed. Thank them for caring enough to stop and assist people you don't even know, making a bad situation a lot easier.
I wish I had asked their names, but hopefully reading this they will know they are appreciated.
