Former 'SNL' Saxophonist to Perform at Tyler Junior College Jazz Festival

Tyler Junior College will host its jazz festival Friday and Saturday featuring professional jazz saxophonist Lou Marini.

Marini has played with the “Saturday Night Live” band, Blues Brothers Band, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich and Doc Severinsen, said information from the college.

Marini will perform with the jazz ensembles in free concerts, set 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Wise Auditorium, on the main campus.

The TJC jazz studies program is under the direction of Heather Mensch.
Members of the TJC jazz ensembles are: Kyle Anderson, Tyler; Giovanni Arroyo, Tyler; Joseph Chandler, Greenville, Ala.; Justin Davis, Ingram; Katie Dugan, Corsicana; Oliver Flores, Tyler; Jonathan Gandy, Tyler; Nathaniel Gardner, Martins Mill; Brad Hughes, Tyler; David Hunter, Tyler; Cody Jamison, Arp; Phillip Joseph, DeSoto; Tony Korkmas, Flint; Sam Labordus, Calgary, Canada; Ryan McInturff, Van; Hayden McMullen, Mabank; Sean Morrow, Big Sandy; Jared Nipp, Whitehouse; Matt Oxley, Tyler; Preston Parker, Jacksonville; Charles Praytor, Lindale; Jeremy Rogers, Whitehouse; Montrael Sanders, Tyler; Eliu Santos, Kaufman; Austin Schaefer, Seguin; Cody Schwark, Mesquite; Joseph Snyder, Tyler; Ryley Tharp, Katy; Stephen Wager, Whitehouse; De’Marcus Walker, Tyler; Jacob Wellman, Mabank; Keith Whitaker, Carlisle; and Ashley Wiegman, Jacksonville.

Area schools participating in the festival include: Quitman High School, Carthage High School, Texarkana High School and Middle School, Westwood High School and the Region XXI All-Region Jazz Ensemble comprised of students from Robert E. Lee, John Tyler, Hallsville and Jacksonville.
