PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Dr. Robert Boudreau, East Texas Medical Center First Physician podiatrist, attended the business meeting of the American Podiatric Medical Association in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Boudreau, who is board certified in foot surgery, went to the meeting as a delegate from the Texas Podiatric Medical Association. He has served as an alternate delegate since 1998, and was elected to serve as a delegate last summer at the TPMA annual business meeting.



  • John Taff and Bert Roseland, of Dixie Paper Co. were awarded a certificate of achievement for having completed a seminar for the sales professional conducted by Spartan Chemical Co. Inc. in Maumee, Ohio.

  • Dixie Paper Co. is an authorized distributor of Spartan's line of specialty maintenance products.



  • The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler announced procurement officers Cheryl Bray and Gwendolyn Cuba passed an examination to be certified Texas purchasers. Prior to the exam they were required to complete courses in basic and advanced public purchasing. The CTP certification allows them to authorize competitive purchases up to $100,000.

  • And procurement officer Sherre Holmes passed the examination to be a certified Texas procurement manager. Prior to the exam she was required to complete courses in basic and advanced public purchasing, cost and price analysis and negotiations and contract management. Becoming a certified Texas procurement manager is the next step after the CTP designation and it allows her to authorize competitive purchases of more than $100,000.


    NEW ASSIGNMENT
    UTHSCT also announced the naming of David Hullum as the new administrative director of internal audit.

    Hullum comes to the health science center from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he was supervisor in the internal audit department from February 2006 to March 2008. Prior to that, he was supervisor of internal audit at UTHSCT from November 2003 to January 2006.


    NEW MEMBERS
    The Tyler Area Builders Association welcomed new members in April. New builder member is Stanley Home Repair & Remodeling/David Stanley. New associate members are Jeia-Bella Tile and Stone LLC/Loryn and Jennifer Frazier, and Silverleaf Resorts/Jim Cannon.


    NEW BUSINESS
    Blake Roberts announced he opened Rhino Linings of Tyler, 4704 Candy Lane, Suite 200, on March 15. Plans include providing spray-in bedliners for trucks, including commercial vehicles. Other applications include trailers, boats, all-terrain vehicles, hoppers and waste containers. Long-term goals including expanding the company's commercial and industrial services and increasing regional outreach.

    Thursday

    The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will have Business After Hours, a social and networking opportunity for area business people, 5-7 p.m. at Prestige Estates, 6928 Paluxy Drive. Snacks and refreshments will be served.


    CONVENTIONS
    These conventions are scheduled in the Tyler area, according to the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau information. Listed in order are the dates, organizations having the conventions, hotels/motels serving as headquarters and total room nights.
