Trinity Lutheran Church Celebrates 75 Years
Trinity Lutheran Church will begin the first of several festival events to mark its 75th year of ministry on Sunday. The church was founded in 1933 with 24 members and is affiliated with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
A video, "This is Your Life Trinity Lutheran Church," will be shown at 9:15 a.m. followed by a reception. A Celebration Worship service will be led by former pastor of Trinity Lutheran, the Rev. Steve Henze, at 10:45 a.m. The day's activities will be concluded with a luncheon.
On April 26, the Thrivent Financial Charity Golf Tour-nament will be held to benefit the church's anniversary.
The church was organized on Easter Sunday, 1933, and met in Tyler's Carnegie Library until 1942 when the congregation moved to South Robertson and Lindsey Land. In 1951, Trinity Day School was started with a kindergarten through fifth grade. The school was replaced with an Early Childhood Ministry and has 170 children attending in 2008, said information from the church.
In 2003, a second site for ministry was established in the greater Hawkins-Holly Lake Drive area. Trinity Lutheran pastors lead worship services twice a month and provide pastoral guidance for the "north campus" that has a "full worship program."
A contemporary worship service, "Ignite," is held at 11 a.m. Sundays at Trinity Lutheran and employs visual arts and drama. A "Morning Star" service, "a less formal traditional service" is held concurrently in the sanctuary. Traditional worship is held at 8:30 a.m.
In July, the congregation will celebrate "Family Day" that includes an ice cream festival and worship service officiated by Pastor Emeritus Vic. Wellman. The Rev. Fred Gersch will lead the worship service during an "Oktoberfest" celebration in the fall.
