Adoption Ministry Workshop Set April 26
Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 7330 S. Broadway Ave., will host a free "Adoption Ministry Mini-Workshop and Seminar," 9 a.m. to noon on April 26. Michael and Army Monroe directors of Tapestry at Irving Bible Church in the Dallas area will lead the nondenominational event.

Monroe said, "From the time this community (Tapestry) began in 2000, we have focused on helping children and families as they travel the adoption or foster care journey. Each journey is unique and presents its own joys and challenges."

The workshop and seminar is "designed for enhancing the lives" of orphans and children living in the foster care system, said information from event organizers. From 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., there will be a discussion of domestic and international adoption and foster care. From 11 to 11:50 a.m., discussions designed for churches considering how to start a domestic or international ministry will be presented, along with practical resources for an adoption and foster care ministry.

  • People Attempting To Help will hold a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 1 at the First Baptist Church, 301 W. Ferguson St. Humorist Jean Gatz will be the guest speaker.

  • The youth group of CrossPointe Community Church, CrossPointe Refuge (CPR) will hold a "Rock The Park" youth rally, 5-8 p.m. April 26 at Bergfeld Park. The event will include contemporary praise and worship and dramas by the youth group. The local band "Chasing After" will perform.

  • Bullard's First United Methodist Church will present Bro. Lou Thomas during the church's Spring Faith Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

  • "This dynamic leader of Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church has led the church to become one of Tyler's fastest growing," said information from Bullard FUMC. "Plan to attend and be strengthened."

  • The Galilee Baptist Church of Flint, will hold a Youth Workshop and Career Fair at 9 a.m. Saturday. Various colleges will be on hand to answer questions about admissions requirements. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a lunch break.

  • "Visitors will be able to taste foods from different states and countries," said information from the church.

  • St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 1020 S. Lyons Ave., will hold its annual Youth Revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The Rev. Brandon Owens of Clear Springs Baptist Church in Lindale will be the guest speaker.

  • Prince of Peace Catholic Church of Whitehouse, 1454488 Highway 110 South, will hold its "Second Annual Spring Fest" from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • There will be a "Flower Shop with a large assortment of spring hanging baskets and potted plants, a Country Store, games for the young and old, a dunking booth, jump house, grocery story with homemade casseroles, a cake walk and more," said information from the church. Hamburgers, hot dogs and sausage on a stick and Mexican food booth will be featured. A raffle for a 15-inch flat screen and mini raffles will be held during the day.

  • The Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its 21st annual Synod Assembly Friday through April 27 at the Maude Cobb Center in Longview. The theme of the assembly is "Disciplelife."

  • More than 600 Lutherans from the Northern Texas, Northern Louisiana Synod will attend, said information from event organizers. There are 118 churches in the Synodical area with 35,000 baptized members and 170 pastors. Three pastors from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Tyler will attend.
