THE KATINAS: The nationally known Katinas headline a benefit concert with East Texas’ Journey Home at New Life Worship Center at 7 p.m. April 26. Christianity Today said the Katinas “stretch pop music beyond any of its present borders” in a 2007 review. Their new CD, “Still,” is scheduled for release on April 29.
The Katinas, recently returning to Nashville off a tour with Michael W. Smith, will perform for a locally based charity at 7 p.m. April 26 at New Life Worship Center, 18535 Highway 69 South. The concert will benefit the Lindale-based Prayer Team 4 Kids.

Tickets are $10 each. Opening the performance will be East Texas' Journey Home, whose song, "Because," is the featured single on the Katinas' soon-to-be-released CD "Still."

Prayer Team 4 Kids "provides immediate prayer support for children in a life-threatening medical crisis," A 24-hour toll-free hotline can be called during emergencies. Proceeds from the concert will "help provide funds to assist families in need while their child is in an ICU setting" said information from Prayer Team 4 Kids.

"Anyone attending a Katinas concert knows how incredible they are," said Ken Cauthen, executive director of Prayer Team 4 Kids. "We are excited to have them here in East Texas."

Journey Home is a self-described "modern praise and worship band" founded by lyricist and lead vocalist Shelley Green. The group was nominated for "Worship Artist of the Year" by the 2008 Momentum Awards in March.

Another Journey Home song "You Are Enough" has been in the top 10 of IndieHeaven's Top 20 chart since December.

Mrs. Green, a mother of two, will be featured in an interview with Tyler's Contemporary Christian Radio KVNE 89.5 FM on Friday morning with Mike Harper.

"We're excited to open for the Katinas," Mrs. Green said. "Especially since they liked one of our songs enough to record it."

The Katinas will help promote Prayer Team 4 Kids at concerts as they tour the country, said Cauthen.

The group plans to visit local children's hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses on behalf of the charity.

Tickets are available at The Scroll Christian Bookstore, 2752 E. Fifth St., and the LifeWay Christian Store, 3500 S. Broadway Ave.
