New 'Flashing Yellow Arrow' Installed
Tyler city Tuesday installed a “Flashing Yellow Arrow” (FYA) turn signal at Broadway and Heritage, affecting northbound and southbound traffic.
The FYA left turn phasing indicates:
Red: stop.
Solid yellow arrow: Left-turn signal is about to turn red.
Flashing yellow arrow: Turns are permitted only after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
Green: Safe to turn left.
Tyler 21 committee on traffic congestion has recommended use of FYA signals.
A study by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program found that the FYA was the best alternative as a permissive signal display for left-turn movement, said information from the city.
