ACHIEVEMENTS

Fred Peters, director of marketing and public information at Tyler Junior College, was named director for District IV of the National Council for Marketing & Public Re-lations, the college an-nounced.

Peters joined TJC in 1993 as a staff journalist and has served as director of marketing and public information since 1995. His duties with the NCMPR include coordinating the organization's District IV annual conference in October in Jackson, Wyo.

The NCMPR is one of the largest affiliate organizations of the American Association of Community Colleges. It connects public relations and marketing professionals at community and technical colleges in the United States, Canada and other countries.



  • Camille Brown, executive director of Stepping Stone Preschool and Elementary schools and C. Brown Middle School, was honored as Outstanding Private School Administrator for the 11th consecutive year by the National Private Schools Association.

  • Julie L. Weisfuss, executive director of the National Private Schools Association, made the announcement. Mrs. Brown was recognized for her 40 years of dedication and professional approach to the private school educational mission and for her leading abilities to achieve excellence in education in the Northeast Texas area.



  • Kathryn Turman, a Tyler native and daughter of Kenneth and Patricia Turman of Tyler, was one of 10 FBI employees to receive a Presidential Rank Award, the highest award a career employee can receive.

  • Ms. Turman is program director of the FBI's Office for Victim Assistance in Washington DC. According to information from the bureau, she built the program. She leads a staff of more than 120 victim-witness specialists and manages a $15 million budget.

    DEVELOPMENT

    Kathy Dozier, broker associate with Lillie McNeel Realty, has become a member of the National As-sociation of Independent Real Estate Brokers and the National Re-location & Referral Net-work.

    The national associations are designed to promote the business and success of independent brokers not affiliated with any franchise.

    Also, Lillie McNeel Realty has moved to 7524 S. Broadway Ave., Suite 114.

    NEW BUSINESSES

    Ed Santos announced the opening of JBC Computers at 4548 S. Broadway Ave., in the French Quarter shopping center. The business sells and services computers. The store opened April 6.

    The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will have Business After Hours, a social and networking opportunity for area business people, 5-7 p.m. at Prestige Estates, 6928 Paluxy Drive. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

    These conventions are scheduled in the Tyler area, according to the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau information. Listed in order are the dates, organizations having the conventions, hotels/motels serving as headquarters and total room nights.

  • April 16-20, Southwest Regional Triumph Convention, Ramada Conference Center, 200.

  • April 25-27, American Legion Family Division 1 Convention, Quality Conference Center, 180.
