Cherokee GOP Meeting Thursday
The Cherokee County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Legacy of Harvey Collins Restaurant, 204 W. Sixth Street in Rusk. The public is invited. For more information, call 903-586-2669.
National County Government Week
Smith County will celebrate National County Government Week, April 6 through 12. Activities will include a children's drawing contest and inviting school-age children to attend a Commissioners Court meeting. Other activities will focus on county employees, and will include a health fair, a luncheon and an Employee of the Year award.
"Smith County is proud of the variety of services it provides to the community," County Judge Joel Baker says. "NCGW is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do, how we do it, and the people behind the services we provide."

Runoff Elections
Runoff elections for the March 4 party primaries will take place on April 8. Early voting lasts from Monday through Friday.
On the Republican side, Smith County Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobby Van Ness faces challenger Terry Phillips in a runoff.
Also, Precinct 3 Constable candidates Dustin Rust and Gary Guthrie face off.
Early voting locations include the Smith County Courthouse Annex, 200 E. Ferguson St., the Lindale Masonic Lodge at 200 Margaret St. in Lindale, and Whitehouse United Methodist Church at 405 W. Main St. in Whitehouse.
Early voting hours last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
On the Democratic side, no local races went into a runoff. There's one Texas Railroad Commissioner race, between Dale Henry and Mark Thompson.
