Shots Reported At Longview Park
LONGVIEW - A bullet nearly struck a small child when two groups exchanged gunfire in Birdie Park around 12:38 p.m. Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a report of shots being fired in the 700 block of West Niblick Street near Birdie Park.

The incident occurred after subjects in a full-size green van stopped near the park and began watching another group sitting on a park bench. A man left the park bench and drove from the park in his vehicle, said police. The van followed. After eluding the van, the man drove to his house on Birdie Place. When the van returned to the park, a person got out and began firing at the people in the park, according to the report. One of the persons in the park returned fire.

During the shooting, two bullets struck near the front window of a house on the 300 block of Birdie Place. One of the bullets went into the house and almost struck a small child.

Longview Police Public Infor-mation Officer Shaun Pendleton said there are no suspects at this time, but an investigation into the shooting will continue.
