Oil Production Sites Hit By Rash Of Robberies
WHITE OAK - Gregg County Sheriff's Department reported a string of thefts at oil production locations.

Investigator Mike Claxton said six production sites have been burglarized since March 21. Thieves have taken more than $25,000 in property from the sites, Claxton said. Electrical wire, joints of tubing and equipment make up the majority of property taken. Claxton said the random thefts in a large rural area make it difficult to investigate.

Investigators have developed few leads on the thefts, but are looking into information regarding a white flatbed truck equipped with a hoist or crane system that was seen near three theft locations on Magnolia Road, south of White Oak.

Claxton said he believes the thefts near White Oak were committed by the same individuals because of the close proximity and property stolen.

Claxton said these vehicles are common in and around oil production facilities.

"Even though citizens see vehicles in areas of oil operations we don't always receive calls because those type of vehicles are commonly used by legitimate companies," he said.

Investigators encourage anyone who notices suspicious vehicles near these properties call law enforcement, especially after dark.

"We would rather stop and check an actual worker than miss an opportunity to stop a thief," Claxton said.

Investigators are working with oil and gas companies, Texas Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to gather additional leads.

Claxton said cash rewards are available for information that might enable law enforcement agencies to solve these crimes.

"There is money in place for the right information," Claxton said.
