A 40-year-old Lindale man was on trial Wednesday for molesting and raping a 10-year-old girl.
Tommy Robinson is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. He faces five years to life in prison if convicted by the jury made up of seven women and five men.
Smith County Sheriff Detective Tony Dana testified that the victim claimed Robinson had molested and raped her while she was staying at his house. The girl was dropped off there on July 21 and taken back to her house on July 24.
Dana said it was not typical to have DNA evidence in child sexual assault cases because children often wait to report the abuse because they are scared, have been groomed or have been told not to tell anyone.
Robinson has also been indicted for an additional count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, as well as indecency with a child.
Visiting Judge Richard Davis is presiding over the trial. Assistant Smith County district attorneys Richard Vance and Greg Cole are prosecuting the case while Melvin Thompson is representing Robinson.
