STEPPING OUT: A future development on Tyler’s west side touts a four-star quality hotel, conference center and condo tower. The hotel will offer fine dining and a spa and wellness center.
Tyler City Council today approved an agreement with Bellwood Tyler Investment for $2 million in improvements to city property at Lake Bellwood and construction of a resort and conference center at the lake.

Bellwood Tyler Investment committed to:

  • Developing a 175-room, four-star resort hotel, using private funds, on a 27-acre parcel north of Bellwood Lake and an adjacent 30,000-square-foot conference center.
  • Extending New Sunnybrook Road as a four-lane road from Loop 323 to the Lake Bellwood area.
  • Improving 37 acres of city-owned property on the lake for public recreation.

  • The agreement calls for 75 percent of hotel/motel taxes collected at the new facility be rebated to the developer for 10 years.

“Developing all areas of the city and facilitating the construction of a new conference center was a priority established by the Tyler 21 Plan,” said Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber, in a statement released by the city. “We are very excited that through this agreement there will be a new, easy access to Lake Bellwood and recreational amenities for all citizens, in addition to a four-star hotel and conference center.”

“This project is important to the entire city as well as the residents in my district,” said Councilman Donald Sanders. “There will be much better access to Lake Bellwood that will provide recreation opportunities and this will also spur other development.”

“This agreement is a win-win for the citizens of Tyler,” said City Manager Bob Turner. “These additions will continue to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens. “
