Michael Lawrence Watkins, 17, of Jacksonville, was released from the Cherokee County Jail on a $15,000 bond Monday after his arrest earlier the same day. He is charged with sexual assault.
Superintendent Stuart Bird said in a written statement Jan. 10 the school had turned the case over to the district attorney’s office after the initial investigation.
Bird said the district’s investigation produced evidence an incident did happen after hours in a stairwell near the high school gymnasium on Jan. 7.
