ATHENS — A Henderson County sheriff’s deputy was not injured in a vehicle accident Sunday morning that happened on his way to a report of a shooting off State Highway 59.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputy Brady McGhee and deputy Bryan Miers were dispatched around 11 a.m. to a residence on County Road 1213 between Shady Oaks and Cross Roads, where it was reported to 911 a man was shooting a gun inside.

Both sheriff’s vehicles were traveling south on Farm-to-Market Road 3441, with McGhee in the lead. According to the sheriff’s report, McGhee slowed to turn left, but Miers thought McGhee was slowing to allow him to pass.

Miers joined McGhee in McGhee’s squad car and proceeded on to the call. Upon arrival, deputies found the suspect had fled the residence into nearby woods. The suspect was located and arrested without incident.

Richard Dean Hulshouser, 43, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond has been set at $10,500.
