League Holds Empowerment Forum
The League of Women Voters-Tyler/Smith County will host a forum focusing on empowering women at 7 p.m. Monday at the Tyler Public Library.

Speakers will address education, economics, health and civic life, according to the League. Speakers will include the League's Dee Brock and Bonnie Hardaway, Jackie Littleton of the American Association of University Women national board of directors, Kelly Hart of Planned Parenthood, and Dr. Marietta Crowder, former regional director of the Texas Department of State Health Services.

For more information, call 903-534-8825.

Parties Hold Conventions
The Smith County Democratic and Republican parties will hold their 2008 county conventions on Saturday.

The Democrats will gather at 9 a.m. at the Family Life Center of St. Louis Baptist Church, 4000 Frankston Highway (Texas Highway 155 just inside Loop 323). They expect between 500 and 1,000 people to attend. Party officials had to secure larger facilities because of the record participation by voters in the Democratic primary this year, they note.

For more information on the Democratic convention, call 903-593-7061.

The Republicans will meet at All Saints Episcopal School, 2695 SSW Loop 323. Registration begins at noon, and the general assembly will start at 1 p.m. For more information call 903-593-0100.
