Campus Notepad: TISD Board Of Trustees Recognizes Gifts, Donations
The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees approved and recognized several gifts and donations at its board meeting Thursday night, including $5,000 from the Robert E. Lee Football Moms Club to Lee Football; $11,526.33 from Rice Elementary PTA to Rice; $23,940 from the Lee Booster Club to various Lee clubs; $10,750 from Andy Woods PTA to Andy Woods; $13,750 from Hubbard PTA to Hubbard; and $16,000 from the Tyler ISD Foundation to Peete Elementary to help pay for its new playground.

TISD will pay the remaining cost of the playground, $16,382.15. That money will come from savings from the 2004 bond program.


Bell
The Bell Elementary PTA is selling bricks from the original Bell building for $25 as part of the "Memorial Brick Project." Each brick purchased can be engraved with up to three lines of print.

The bricks will be used to create a memorial walkway joining the new Bell Elementary to the former school ground, now the playground area.

These bricks are a way to honor current and/or former teachers, students or family members. Order forms can be found on the Bell Elementary Web site, www.tylerisd.org/schools/bell, or picked up at Bell Elementary between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Bonner
Bonner Elementary School will have a Young Audiences Performance with Joyce Terrell, "Sheep to Shawl," for fourth grade Monday through Friday.


Caldwell
Caldwell Elementary School will have a Young Audiences Performance with Julio Suarez and Cindy McDaniel for fourth and fifth grades Monday through Wednesday.


Clarkston
"City Critters" will be on display Monday through Friday in the cafeteria at Clarkston Elementary School.

City Critters is a 4-H school enrichment program designed to teach children to observe and appreciate the animals they see in the city.

Clarkston will have a "Reading Road Trip" book fair Monday through Thursday. The book fair will take place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the library.

The school will have its presentation of "Waltz Across Texas" from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria and courtyard. The event showcases student exhibits and performances. It begins with a barbecue or hot dog supper. Cost for the meal is $3 per person. Student performances will begin at 5:45 p.m. Parents and community members are invited to tour courtyard exhibits and visit the book fair.


Douglas
Douglas Elementary School will have a Young Audiences Performance with Julio Suarez and Cindy McDaniel for fourth and fifth grades Wednesday through Friday.

Douglas will also have a Young Audiences Performance with Evelyn James, "Fun With Numbers" for second-graders on Friday.


Jack
Jack Elementary School will have a PTA meeting and family science night Tuesday. The PTA meeting will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the family science night will happen from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Wiley College science majors will demonstrate hands-on activities, from making a bottle rocket to an iodine clock reaction demonstration.


Jones
Jones Elementary School will have a Young Audiences Performance with Julio Suarez and Cindy McDaniel for fourth- and fifth-graders Monday through Wednesday.


Hogg
Hogg Middle School will have its annual PTA health fair from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the gym.

The participants involved in the fair include East Texas Medical Center, Mother Frances Hospital, University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, Northeast Texas Public Health District, Bethesda Clinic, Heuser Chiropractic, Kool Smiles, YMCA, Carter Blood Center, East Texas Food Bank, Outback Steakhouse and State Farm Insurance.

Medical testing and vital information will be available. Two iPods will be given away as door prizes. Refreshments will be provided in the cafeteria.

The health fair is only open to the students and parents of Hogg Middle School.


Moore
Moore Middle School will have a Young Audience Performance with Dru Woods, called "Mime and Mask" for eighth grade on Tuesday and Thursday.


Sign Language
Sign language classes are being offered for children and adults at Clarkston Elementary School, 2819 Shenandoah Drive. They are free and open to the public.

Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday as well as April 1, 8 and 15.


Head Start
A Head Start Policy Council meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Head Start office, 2850 W. Shaw St.

TISD is enrolling students in the Head Start program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its office. Those interested should bring information, including: proof of income (2007 tax return/all sources), child's birth certificate, child's up-to-date shot record, Social Security cards for all family members and current proof of address.


All Saints
First-graders at All Saints Episcopal School will present "Getting Down With Mother Goose" at 10 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Tuesday. The play will be in the Lower School auditorium.

The "all school" Easter chapel service is 10 a.m. Tuesday in the gym. Parents and grandparents are invited. Students will flower crosses with blooms they bring from home.

All Saints 5K students will take a field trip to the planetarium on Tuesday.

The third grading period for Lower School students will end Friday.

Students will participate in the district PSIA (Private Schools Interscholastic Association) competition at Saint Monica's school in Dallas on Friday.


Gorman
Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic School sixth grade will have its class trip on Monday to Dallas.

"The Miracle Worker" one-act play will be presented at 6 p.m. Monday.

The fifth-grade parent/guardian meeting, in preparation for sixth grade, will take place at 8:15 a.m. or 6 p.m. Thursday.

Gorman's "Junior Ring Mass" will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.


Grace
Grace Community School eighth-graders will travel to Red Cloud, Colo., Sunday through Saturday for a challenge camp to stretch them physically, spiritually and socially.

The ninth grade travels to Dallas on Wednesday in conjunction with finishing a unit of the Middle Ages. They will visit Medieval Times.

The National Honor Society induction ceremony will be 10:15 a.m. Friday in the Burgess Auditorium at the high school.


Stepping Stone
Stepping Stone Preschool, Elementary and C. Brown Middle School will be closed Monday. No care will be available.

Stepping Stone pre-kindergarten classes will go to Caldwell Auditorium to attend the Stephen Fite concert on Friday. Classes will leave the school at 8:45 a.m. and return around noon. Students need to wear their field trip uniforms.

Stepping Stone/C. Brown Middle School will have a spirit rally at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the school gym. The kindergarten class will perform.
