City Of Tyler Releasing Annual 'Report Card'
By CINDY MALLETTE

The city of Tyler will release its 2007 annual report on Sunday, with copies of the report going out in the Tyler Courier-Times--Telegraph.

It's the seventh year the city has issued what Mayor Joey Seeber calls the city's "report card."

"We want our citizens to know what we've done over the past year," he said. "We want them to know the challenges we faced and how we met them."

The 16-page report highlights the city's financial status, its new programs and its achievements in 2007. Its theme could be "Our Vision for the Future," Seeber said, because a major focus is on how the Tyler 21 plan fits with the city's Blueprint business philosophy.

"It offers a glimpse of the progress we've already made under the plan," he said.

The annual report also gives information on how Tyler compares to cities of similar size in its tax rate and general obligation debt. The city was one of only a handful of Texas towns to be able to pay off its general obligation debt completely, thanks to funds generated by the half-cent sales tax. City leaders also give the half-cent sales tax credit for Tyler having the lowest property tax rate of cities its size.

"We are continuing the fiscal discipline that our citizens have come to expect, and we're also delivering superior services that they've come to expect, too," Seeber said.

He said he's proud of the work the city's been able to accomplish during his tenure as mayor, and he believes that the incoming mayor will continue the plans that previous councils and city residents have shared for the city's future.

"My hope is that the new mayor will bring their own vision and energy to a very good plan that's already been outlined by the citizens of Tyler," he said.

The annual report also gives general information on city officials and phone numbers for city offices. Besides the copy in Sunday's paper, it will be available at City Hall and on the city's Web site, www.cityoftyler.org, on Monday.
