UT Tyler women's basketball player Kasey Buggs was named to the D3hoops.com All-South Region third team Wednesday.

Buggs, a senior this past season, is the first UT Tyler women's basketball player to receive All-Region honors. Buggs is one of only 15 players in the South Region to receive the honor. The South Region includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

During the 2007-08 season, Buggs averaged 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Buggs finished her career at UT Tyler as the school's all-time leading rebounder and second on the school's all-time scoring list.

Buggs was also named American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Year and was also named to the All-Conference team, All-East Division first team, Academic All-Conference team and ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team.

Buggs joined three other ASC players who were named to South Region teams. Meia Daniels of Howard Payne and Tarra Richardson of McMurry were named to the first team, while Stacey Blalock, also of Howard Payne, was named to the second team. Howard Payne's head coach, Chris Kielsmeir, was named the South Region's Coach of the Year and Daniels was named South Region's Player of the Year.

"I was real happy with Patrick Bosley," said Lee head boys coach John Taylor. "He came through with a lot of people watching him (in the playoff). He nearly drove the green on a 300-yard Par 4, and then chipped it to within six inches and made the putt."

As a team, REL combined to shoot 328, defeating second-place Bullard Brook Hill (355) by 27 strokes. In third was Lufkin B (358) with Palestine Westwood (361) taking fourth and Lufkin Hudson (371) finishing fifth.
