Track & Field

DALLAS - The John Tyler track and field teams are both slated to compete in the Roosevelt Yates-James Invitational Saturday at Sprague Stadium.

The JT girls are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Doug Stanley/Lady Tiger Invitational in Lancaster.

The Lady Lions were led by junior Kim Coleman, who placed second in the 100-meter dash in 12.29 seconds.

The Lions last competed on March 1 in their own Earl Campbell/Emma Barrett Relays, an event which they finished second overall in.

JT was slated to compete in the Tyler Lee Relays last week, which were canceled due to inclement weather.

Baseball

Tyler Junior College takes a break from conference play when the baseball squad plays Baton Rouge (La.) Community College Saturday at Mike Carter Field.

The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.

The two squads will also play at noon on Sunday.

TJC is 12-12 overall.



Robert E. Lee will play a doubleheader Saturday on the road at Mesquite Poteet's Copeland Field.

The Red Raiders (7-5) will battle Arlington Martin (14-2-1) at 2:30 p.m. before finishing up against Poteet (10-2) at 5 p.m.

3-N-1 Trinity Services is hosting volleyball and basketball tournaments at the Tyler YMCA on April 12.

The tournaments are benefiting Girls and Boys On A Mission.

Basketball teams must have at least five players and a minimum of eight for volleyball teams.

The cost is $10 for players ages 12 to adult and $5 for children ages 6-11.
