March 14: Catholics Are Not Evil
As a native East Texan who converted to Catholicism as an adult nearly 25 years ago, I am completely familiar with the misconceptions associated with the doctrine of the Catholic Church originating from a certain portion of the population.

I have heard them all and can say without reservation that most are the result of misunderstanding and the frequent and vigorous repetition of incorrect information.

While I believe most people have no ill intent, for anyone to suggest that "evil eminates from the church at the corner of Front and Broadway" is way out of bounds.

Such a statement is far more than a simple indictment of Catholic Church doctrine. Taken literally, it would imply that its members (members of the larger Body of Christ) are evil. We Catholics are no better, worse or much different than the majority of our neighbors. We understand the significance of Christ's death and look to him for our salvation.
