Cain Center Bomb Threat False Alarm
By KELLY PREW
Staff Writer

ATHENS - A bomb threat at the Cain Center on Wednesday morning was a false alarm.

Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill told the Tyler Paper someone from the center, located at 915 N. Palestine St., called 911 shortly before 10 a.m. to report the threat.

The person who reported to police said a call received at the Cain Center indicated a man had placed a bomb in the building.

Police immediately evacuated the center, and after a sweep of the building by police and Athens Fire Department personnel, Hill said there were no suspicious items found.

The center reopened for normal activity around 11 a.m.

"We're working on where the call originated," Hill said. "We are trying to determine who the caller is and their motivation."

Hill said the false alarm could result in charges that would range from a Class A misdemeanor to a state jail felony.
