Eltife Named To Senate Select Committee
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst has appointed state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, to the Senate Select Committee on Economic Development. The committee will study economic development programs and incentives, including the Texas Enterprise Fund and the Texas Emerging Technologies Fund. The committee will be chaired by Sen. Kim Brimer, R-Fort Worth.

Great Decisions Wednesday
The Great Decisions discussion series ends at noon on Wednesday at the Tyler Public Library. Each of the weekly meetings has addressed a current foreign policy topic, with one or more experts on the subject leading the discussions.

The series is part of a national effort launched in 1954 by the Foreign Policy Association. In Tyler, the event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women - Tyler Branch, the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County and the Tyler Public Library.

Dr. Robert Sterken, associate professor of political science at The University of Texas at Tyler, serves as chair of the Great Decisions steering committee.

For more information, call 903-565-6655.

Wednesday's discussion will be:

"Iraq End Game" with Dr. Sterken. A recurring question found in most public opinion polls and on the 2008 presidential campaign trail: What will be the end-game for the United States in Iraq? How will U.S. decisions about continued engagement affect Iraq itself, and the Middle East?

Rusk GOP Women Meet
The Rusk County Women's Club will hold a fundraising evening of dinner, fellowship, discussion and entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, March 10 at the Tommy McDaniel Expo Center in Henderson. For more information, call 903-657-9376.

Patrolmen Endorse Creath
The Tyler Patrolman's Association has endorsed Smith County Constable Frank Creath in his bid for re-election. Creath faces challenger Todd Thoene in the March 4 Republican primary for the Precinct 2 seat.

Primary Elections
The March 4 primary elections are approaching. Offices up for election include county commissioner Precincts 1 and 3, tax assessor/collector, sheriff, all constables, some state district judges, all state representatives and all U.S. House of Representative seats.
