Texas Railroad Commission Reports New Permits
The Texas Railroad Commission on Wednesday reported that it issued 1,760 original drilling permits in January, compared to 1,360 in January 2007.

Last month's total included 1,544 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 58 to re-enter existing well bores and 158 for re-completions. They included 392 oil, 367 gas, 951 oil and gas, 45 injection and five other permits.

In January, operators reported 536 oil, 876 gas, 57 injection and 19 other completions, according to information from the RRC. This compares to 639 oil, 753 gas, 53 injection and six other completions during January 2007.

Total well completions for 2008 are 1,488, up from 1,451 recorded during the same period in 2007.

Operators reported 704 holes plugged and five dry holes in January, compared to 691 holes plugged and two dry holes in January 2007, according to RRC information.
