FBC Canton Offering Single-Moms Weekend
Single moms can learn car maintenance, home organization, how to find employment opportunities, budgeting "and much more" at the "Legacy of Love" single-mothers weekend at First Baptist Church of Canton, 303 S. Athens St. The event will be held Friday through Feb. 24, said information from the church.

The deadline for registration is Thursday at noon, said event organizer Marsha Howard.

"I just hate for anybody to miss out on this, it's going to be so good," she said. "Mothers whose husbands are gone, absent or missing because of work or other circumstances are welcome, too. We just want everybody to come."

Sandra Aldrich, author of "From One Single Mother to Another: Heart-Lifting Encouragement and Practical Advice," and Kara Durbin, author of "Parenting With Scripture: A Topical Guide for Teachable Moments," will be featured. Gospel and Country Singer Susie Luchsinger, 2007 Female Vocalist of the Year of the Country Gospel Connection Choice Awards, will sing and speak.

Biblical guidance will be given on self-esteem, seeking God, loneliness and parenting. Host homes will be provided for out-of-towners and take-home literature and "helpful resources" will also be provided. Books, CDs, make-up kits, lipsticks, creams and door prizes will be given away.

Break-out sessions will include 15-minute one-on-one counseling and some legal help, said Mrs. Howard.

"People will submit written questions in a big box. If they decide to go to that break-out session, those questions will be answered, so they don't have to speak up in a group," she said. "We'll have counseling, too. I know you can't get a whole lot of counseling in 15 minutes, but it's available for a private question if anyone has them."

The event begins at 5 p.m. Friday and continues from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The Sunday service begins at 9:15 a.m. and lunch will be served afterward.

"We'll go to 1 p.m. and all the rest of the give-aways will be distributed," Ms. Howard said.

A refundable $20 commitment fee is due by noon Thursday and will be returned at 1 p.m. Sunday. Call 903-567-4157 or 903-567-0117 for information. Visit the Web at www.firstcanton.com for event information or to register.
