Spend 'A Night At The Moulin Rouge' At The WSL '08 Ball
Decorations for the Women's Symphony League's 2008 Symphony Ball, "A Night at The Moulin Rouge," will reflect the streets of Paris, France, thanks to the efforts of Decorations Chair Lucy Carr and longstanding designers Dennis Randolph of Strong Productions and Raymond Krueger of Jerry's Flowers, WSL Publicity Chair Leslie Roberts said.
This is the 53rd year for the WSL ball, to be held at 7 p.m. March 7 at Harvey Convention Center, with proceeds benefiting the East Texas Symphony Orchestra.
The prospect of coming up with something "new and exciting" is a "wonderful opportunity," Ms. Carr said.
"What's to worry about when you have such a unique theme? 'A Night at The Moulin Rouge' is overflowing with possibilities for decorations," she said.
Ms. Carr said Randolph has been "a cornerstone" of this event for years.
"He is always rich with ideas that elegantly transform Harvey Convention Center into whatever theme the ball chair chooses, and this year is no exception," she said.
Ms. Carr said Krueger is the other key to the ball's success.
"Raymond and Liz are a delight to work with. They work so hard to design gorgeous arrangements and floral accessories that ensure the vision of the ball chair is carried out. They have a long history with the Women's Symphony League, and this year will be very meaningful for them as their daughter, Katie, is one of the Junior Symphony League senior volunteers being presented."
WSL Ball Chair Linda Rowe chose the Moulin Rouge theme, and credits a collaborative effort for achieving her vision of "Old World Paris."
"It has taken a team of flowing ideas to get us to this point. Visions are easy. Carrying them out is something else. It's a journey to get from one to another, and with people like Lucy, Raymond and Dennis, the journey has been not only doable, but wonderful."
As ball guests enter Harvey Convention Center, the decorations will depict the streets of Paris of a former era, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, sidewalk cafes and The Moulin Rouge restaurant.
"This famous landmark required draping the entire room in rich black fabric," Ms. Carr said. "The draping will highlight the JSL members as they are presented on a stage framed in rich red velvet. The draping will also serve as the backdrop for the signature red windmill of the Moulin Rouge."
"A Night at The Moulin Rouge" will feature dinner, dancing, a chance drawing, casino and a silent auction. Tickets are $150 per person, and attire is formal. For information, call 903-596-9154 or go to the Web site at www.wsltyler.org.
