A trailer rig hauling a 109,000 pound transformer to Dallas overturned Friday toppling the million dollar piece of equipment onto the shoulder of Interstate 20.
Lopez Martinez, trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the three-stage trailer rig was headed westbound on I-20 near mile marker 560 when the driver attempted to take the Lavender Road exit which was off his planned route.
“When trying to exit the trailer rig’s right rear tires went off the road,” Martinez said.
The 38-wheeler overturned on its side at the Lavender Road and I-20 exit completely blocking the entrance.

Red Springs Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to the wreck and poured absorbent shavings on Lavender Road where the overturned truck spilled a mixture of diesel fuel and motor oil.
Tim Thompson, fire department training officer, said it would take several hours to remove the wreckage because of the cargo’s weight.

“We are waiting on a crane to come from Longview to move the transformer,” he said. “It’s not light.”
Trooper Martinez said the transformer weighted more than 109,000 pounds.
The driver of the trailer, who had traveled from North Carolina to deliver the transformer, was uninjured.
