Highway 323 Accident Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
From Staff Reports

HENDERSON -- One man died and a woman was injured in a traffic accident Monday along State Highway 323 in Rusk County.

According to Department of Public Safety reports, that accident happened at 5 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 426 and SH 323, a few miles northeast of Henderson. Madison Pewell, 45, of Henderson, was reported dead at the scene by Judge Bob Richardson. DPS reports showed that Pewell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to the DPS, Pewell was driving a 1982 Chevrolet S-10 pickup northbound on 323 when he lost control on the wet road and went into a side skid. A 2001 Honda Accord, driven by 42-year-old Michelle Means, of Joinerville, was headed southbound and hit the truck on its passenger side.

The truck flipped onto its top and landed in a ditch along the roadway. DPS said Ms. Means was taken to Mother Frances Hospital with incapacitating injuries. Pewell's body was taken to Cottle-Pearson funeral home in Overton. State Trooper Steven Gresham is investigating the accident.
