Brochure Adds More Color to Smith County Libraries
Smith Public County libraries’ check-out desks are sporting a colorful new addition: a first ever brochure for SALT (Smith County Area Libraries Together). The organization stands for more cooperation and better services for Smith County residents.
The attractive trifold, printed in shades of red and blue, includes a brief description of each of the six libraries and an overview of Smith County libraries’ services and the aims of SALT. Patrons are invited to pick up a brochure and keep it handy for phone numbers, web sites, and addresses.
“We think our brochure is a real asset to our communities,” says Sandra Knackstedt, library director in the Whitehouse Library.
The six Smith County libraries are the Bullard Community Library, the Lindale Library, the Noonday Community Library, the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library, the Tyler Public Library, and the Whitehouse Community Library. Each of the libraries offers a variety of services and programs.
“We are all grateful to Brookshire’s Grocery Company for underwriting the printing of this brochure,” Scherel Carver, treasurer of the Friends of the Tyler Library, said in a prepared statement. “It really underscores the relevance of SALT as an organization to make our libraries better.”
Brookshire’s Grocery Company funded printing the brochures for the whole county.
SALT was organized in 2006 as an outgrowth of a study by the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County. This local effort, as well as studies done by the Texas Library Association and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, pointed to the need for more collaboration among libraries. The premise is that larger areas of service make it possible for libraries to share planning and implementation of some services or perhaps all services. The benefits include the potential to achieve more with lower overall costs and to share ideas that lead to making positive differences throughout the county.
