FORT WORTH - Robert E. Lee senior Kendall Frizzell scored two goals and senior Kirby Huffstickler had nine saves to pace the Lady Raiders past Carrollton Creekview, 2-1, Thursday in their first match of the Red Bull/Nike Showcase.

The match was the season opener for both teams at Doskocil Stadium on the Nolan Catholic High School campus.

Lee gears up to face Coppell, ranked No. 3 in the nation, next at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the second match of the White Group at TCU's Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

Frizzell missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury, but quickly started making up for lost time.

After the Lady Raiders (1-0) were denied on several opportunities by the Creekview keeper, Frizzell gave Lee its first goal midway through the first half. The senior received a pass and dribbled through three defenders before calmly firing her shot into the far corner.

Lee, which outshot Creekview 14-9 in the match, continued to pelt the Creekview net at the close of the first half and early in the second, but failed to add to its lead.

Creekview made Lee pay for those missed chances by furnishing an equalizer with 20 minutes remaining.

The Lady Raiders quickly answered with sophomore Ashley Jones putting Frizzell through on a back header. Frizzell did the rest for a 2-1 lead.

Huffstickler was called into action a few times after that, but kept Carrollton Creekview at bay to win the game.

"We probably had eight legitimate chances to score on them and their keeper, who is going to Miami, made eight big saves," said Lee head coach Chris Woodard. "We probably should've had three or four goals and were just unlucky. That was good to see in the first game."
