  • Southside Bank has established tragedy accounts benefitting the families of Jana Shearer and James Compton, two East Texas residents who died this week.

    Ms. Shearer died over the weekend, allegedly by the hand of Christopher McCuin of Tyler, whom she was dating.

    Compton, a student at Bullard High School, died in a Tuesday morning crash in Bullard.

    Donations to the tragedy accounts can be made at any Southside Bank branch.

    A memorial service for Jana Lauren Shearer, 21, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel, 1011 E. First St., Tyler, with Pastor Larry Reeves officiating.

    Ms. Shearer was an officer in the John Tyler High School drill team during the 2003-2004 school year and received honors in dance competitions.

    She is survived by her mother, Stephanie Shearer of Whitehouse; her father, Tom Shearer of Fort Worth; and sisters Rebekah Thomas and Melissa Shearer, both of Kansas.

    Services for Compton are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Bullard First Baptist Church with the Rev. William M. Compton officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Memorial Park under direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.

    He was a junior at Bullard High School, where he played trumpet in the band and was a member of National Honor Society.

    Survivors include his parents, James D. "Buddy" and Shirley Compton, Bullard; aunts, uncles and cousins.
