Wildcats Start Off With Win
By CHRIS PARRY

Alamo Heights had been warming up for 10 minutes before Whitehouse strolled onto the floor prior to Thursday's marquee matchup in the Floyd Wagstaff Holiday Classic.
Whitehouse then showed the visitors from San Antonio why it had reason to make a fashionably late entrance.
The Wildcats led from start to finish, including an impressive 6-for-6 on field goals in the fourth period to outscore Alamo Heights 22-15 and close out a 72-57 win at Tyler Junior College's Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The victory raised Whitehouse's record to 13-1 while Alamo Heights dropped to 12-5.
Whitehouse head coach Wally Dawkins said his team's depth proved to be the deciding factor.
"I thought (Alamo Heights) had the momentum going into halftime which bothered me because they are a good team and well coached," Dawkins said. "But we typically, because of our depth and size, wear on people in (the second half)."
Whitehouse guard Mitch Marquis led the way with 18 points.
Post Jacob Holmen finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocks, and senior Cade Clark added 15 points and three boards.
Upon hearing Whitehouse's perfect shooting in the fourth quarter, Dawkins gave a simple reply.
"Well, that's good then. We work on that just for the fourth quarter," Dawkins said with a grin.
The Wildcats advance to the semifinals where they will face Bullard, who defeated Henderson 56-51 in its first round game, at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Alamo Heights will play Henderson at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Alamo Heights was led by Jude Dworaczyk's 20 points. Nick Jones had eight points and seven rebounds.
Whitehouse held a comfortable 31-18 advantage nearing the end of halftime when Alamo Heights showed its resolve. The Mules ended the second period on a 6-0 run and started the third with a 3-pointer by Dworaczyk to make the score 31-27.
The Wildcats responded with a 3-pointer from Kyle Ford and a free throw by Clark to push its advantage back to 35-27. Alamo Heights never threatened again after that.
