TylerPaper.com on Industry-Leader Content Platform
As part of a Web site redesign launched in February 2007, TylerPaper.com switched hosting companies and is now on the Saxotech Content Management System.

Other newspaper industry Web sites on the Saxotech platform include USA Today, The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group, The Washington Times, The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Louisville Courier-Journal.

The Saxotech platform is based on a proprietary software first introduced in Denmark. Its success there led to Web sites – mostly media-company sites – in the United States and Australia also contracting for the service.

Saxotech’s platform allows users the flexibility to expand, reconfigure and redesign the site quickly to meet changing reader needs, said Bret McCormick, vice president for Web enterprises for TylerPaper.com. He pointed out that prior to the conversion to Saxotech, the TylerPaper.com Web site had about 50 categories for news. As of late September 2007, the site has nearly 400 categories of news.

“The reason that’s important is that it allows us to target both news and advertising to niche audiences,” McCormick said. “For example, we have a high school sports section with a dedicated page for each of 77 high schools in East Texas. And, we’ve launched our clubs and organizations section, which will have a page for each of more than 200 Tyler-area groups.”

Saxotech’s template-based system allowed the existing Web team to construct and configure all of these new categories and sections in-house.
