Tyler Woman Shoots Husband

A Tyler woman shot her husband Saturday night, then holed up inside her house for more than three hours before police could extricate her - unconscious - from the home.
Police identified the woman as Jerry Scarborough, 61. Her condition was unknown as of 9:30 p.m. Saturday, but Don Martin, public information officer for the Tyler Police Department, said she did not appear to have shot herself.
Martin said the incident started as an argument between Mrs. Scarborough and her husband, 62-year-old Frank Scarborough. The woman apparently shot her husband twice - once in the leg and once in the arm - and grazed his neck.
Martin said the man was able to run to a neighbor's house where he called 911. An ambulance transported Scarborough to East Texas Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A SWAT team was called to the house, located at 3015 S. Cameron Ave. around 7 p.m. and had made contact with Mrs. Scarborough by phone, Martin said. When they didn't hear from her for more than an hour, SWAT members surrounded the house and attempted to make contact through a bull horn.
Martin said officers looked through a rear window and saw the woman lying on the floor, apparently unconscious. EMS crews brought her out of the house on a gurney, and Martin said investigators aren't yet sure how she became unconscious. He said they're sure she didn't shoot herself.
One of the couple's neighbors, Bob Horick, said he was shocked to find out what happened.
"I've met them. My wife, my kids, we've all been over there before," he said. "There's nothing that would let you know something like this was going to happen."
Horick said Scarborough is a retired school teacher and said Mrs. Scarborough didn't leave their home much, due to apparent back problems.
Martin said officers were called out to the home about two months ago in relation to another domestic disturbance.
