Texas State Railroad Offering Roundtrips
PALESTINE — Saturday marks the first day since flooding rains in July washed out a portion of the tracks at the Texas State Railroad that the train will offer a roundtrip excursion.

The railroad will offer a run out of the Palestine depot at 11 a.m. Saturday to the Maydelle turntable.

Officials with the railroad said the special roundtrip excursion offers riders a chance to see the train use the Maydelle turntable to prepare for the return trip to Palestine. A light lunch will also be offered on board the train.

Saturday’s run is also the first roundtrip run since American Heritage Railways took over operations of the railroad Sept. 1.

The company has been operating the train, however, to do special train rides of Thomas the Tank Engine and The Polar Express, which continues on various days through Dec. 23.

Tickets to ride the regular train rides of the Texas State Railroad are $34 for adults ages 12 and older and $17 for ages three to 11. Climate-controlled coaches are available for an additional fee.

Call 1-888-987-2461 to make reservations.
