Quitman Students Took Heart Medication
QUITMAN — Students in Quitman who became ill and were hospitalized this week took a heart prescription medicine brought to school by a student, police said today at a news conference.
Nine capsules of the drug Altace were passed around at Quitman Middle School on Tuesday. The six students who took it were hospitalized after experiencing an accelerated heart rate and other complications, said police and officials from ETMC Quitman.
One of the students remains at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Another student was kept overnight at ETMC Quitman. The others were treated and released on the same day.
The drug was a prescribed medication for the father of the student who brought the drug to school, police said.
