Fisheries Center Stocks Pond With Trout
ATHENS — Rainbow trout were stocked today in a 1.5-acre casting pond at the Texas Freshwaters Fisheries Center near Athens.
The new pond received 533 fish, and the larger casting pond was stocked with 995, said information from the center. The fish are purchased from a hatchery in Missouri and trucked to Texas.
The fisheries center’s new pond and a fishing pier were constructed as part of the Richard M. Hart and Johnny Morris Conservation Center, which opened in April. The pond also contains some sizeable largemouth bass as well as rainbow trout and has plenty of room around it for back-casts, making it ideal for fly fishing.

Additional trout will be stocked into the ponds at regular intervals during the winter months.
