Lee, JT Set For Lindale's Hoop Heaven Tourney
LINDALE - Robert E. Lee is looking to play four games this weekend at the Tyler Ford Hoop Heaven Tournament.

Why?

A fourth game would place the Red Raiders into the tournament final or consolation final, or at worst the third-place game.

The Red Raiders have enjoyed success at the Hoop Heaven recently, winning it in 2004 and placing third the past two years.

Lee (1-4) is trying to snap a four-game losing streak when its opens up play Thursday against Henderson. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Eagle Gymnasium.

The winner faces the winner of St. Michaels-Irving Nimitz winner in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lee lost 61-49 to Nacogdoches Monday night. In the game, REL shot 47 percent from the floor and committed 22 turnovers.

John Tyler's end of the bracket features just six teams, compared to the eight on Lee's side.

Still, JT figures to face a tough road, starting with a matchup against an unbeaten Class 3A team in Bullard (4-0) that on Tuesday beat a Pine Tree team the Lions lost to last week.

The Lions (0-5) will be looking to break through after five straight losses to start the season - all against Class 4A schools. JT fell to Jacksonville 69-58 Tuesday, cutting a 22-point deficit late down

The Lions most recently advanced to the finals of the Hoop Heaven Tournament in 2004, and won the whole event in 2005.

If JT loses to Bullard, the Lions get a bye into the consolation semifinals.

The Lions hope to improve on its accuracy after shooting just 27 percent from the field, and 15 percent from 3-point territory Tuesday against Jacksonville.
